Believe strongly, but then practice fully

I don't think I will ever stop going to the park in the mornings. I always get some trigger or other to write a few things for the day!

I was relaxing in the bench after the walk. I heard loud clap from the side. I saw an elderly person sprang up  in fear from his meditation hearing it. As usual I enjoyed it, any thing unusual I welcome! The clapping did not stop, it continued for 5 minutes. It was a couple standing straight, closed their eyes, looking in the east direction, clapping with all the force they have. It could be their belief that all evil will be driven out by this gesture. Or it could be that they believe by doing so, their ancestors may be pleased from the heavens and bless them. Or it could just be that the physio asked them to clap rigorously to release the stress in their hands. That could be physio's belief ! What ever be the case, they could have done this at home or on the main road if they don't have a place at home. Lucky for them, the man in meditation did not die of a heart attack.

My friend invited me for 13th day ceremony when his father expired. It was a full fledged ceremony, as per books. Good. But then, he had not paid attention to some other important things mentioned in the same old books. That a person needs to take care of his father well, especially when he is old and critically ill. My friend used to insult his father. Now that he is scared that his father's soul would haunt him, if he hadn't done this ceremony to the minute details possible. Why follow some thing partially that appeals you or scares you.

Another friend, his father is healthy and hale.He takes good care of his father as well. But he bought a new two wheeler, bike for his son. What is wrong with that ? He did not allow his son to ride the bike till he along with his son went to the Ganesa temple and did the pooja. Nothing wrong with that either. Good to have that belief. But then his son forgot the basic rules and decency while riding on the road, a week after that. He attempted a wheelie. It is a trend now in Bangalore, you would have seen that circus on road, people lift the front wheel and ride only on the back wheel. That posture reminds me of those great warriors seen in old portraits, riding on a horse, charging. But those warriors had a reason to do so ! During the wheelie experiment, my friend's son fell so badly on the ground, doctors have told him that not only that he can't ride a bike in his life, even standing up and walking normally would take at least a few years, spinal chord was damaged that badly.

Beliefs, rituals, customs, they could be logical or illogical, but they do help. They give confidence or relief in people who believe in them while adhering to it. But then, these people should be sensitive to others and should not create inconvenience to others.

Also practice them fully. Not the only part that suits you, or not only those which you are scared of the consequences in the absence of not doing them.

I believe more in practicing and less in preaching. So let me not elaborate further!
