Don't make others busy !

"How was the food in the hostel canteen ?" Keshu's mother asked him when he visited  them during his annual vacation. He studied in a college in a far off place staying in the hostel. Good fellow, no bad habits. Only weakness he had was food. He was crazy about food. Naturally, Keshu replied "Lousy food there, I am dying to have some homely food made by your own hands". With that statement Keshu would go out to meet his friends. And the poor mother would get extremely busy. To make rare and exquisite dishes which she hadn't prepared for an year, to feed her beloved son. She would make her ailing husband also busy by asking him to go and fetch exotic ingredients from multiple markets. Keshu would be busy eating here and there throughout the day and by the time he reached home, he would have eaten for the whole week ! Keshu's mom would again get busy in distributing a good amount of that food to her neighbors, convincing them hard that she made it for them only on the happy occasion of her son's home coming. She or her husband wouldn't be able to eat much of it as they were busy in taking one medicine or the other, thanks to their multiple ailments.

You act busy in certain occasions. I too act busy in many more occasions. So let's not get busy in disucssing that aspect here at all ! It's natural and human !!

One needs to be busy and it is a good thing. It keeps you engaged. However,  you need to be busy with things that you enjoy, else that "business" will not last long. Also, it is none of your business to make others busy unnecessarily.

I had made some people busy without their knowledge.  "How are the Menons ? How often you meet them?" my friend who returned from onsite asked me once. "Oh, they are very busy people, I haven't spoken to them for ages". I replied as if every other day I go and look at them to measure their "business". I made the Menons hypothetically busy just to hide the reason which only I know of,  that made me avoid them !!

"It is not enough to be busy. So are the ants. The question is : What are we busy about?" - Henry David Thoreau. It is time for many corporates to introduce one more metric to measure effectiveness of their business, especially in people intensive service businesses. People satisfaction and utilization are so good measures that are in place. "Busy Index" is another metric the HR folks can think of to play around with. To find out  how many are really busy among the utilised lot and how many are really satisfied among those. And then form a few more task forces to make a lot  more people busy. Un-utilized people will anyway be unhappy and too busy with their own stuff, so no need to bother them much.

I am sure many of you are busy with something or other, so let me make this blog very short. And to those people who are extremely busy and to save time, who habitually look for those usual "gyan" messages in these last few lines, this time I placed those messages in the middle !

Enjoy another busy day !!
