I am a happy man today. I am going to get some amount of money. That too unexpectedly!       

   

I had taken a life insurance money-back policy long time back. One may wonder why a calm, peace-loving person like me, who would never do any criminal activity that would end my life abruptly, who would never venture into any risky job, went for a life insurance cover. There was a reason. I was recently married. And as they say while one enters into a high-risk activity, it is advisable to take an insurance cover. So immediately after the marriage I took one policy without even thinking who the benefactor would be!

Months went by, years went by. Every quarter I faithfully paid the premium much before the due date. Only once I defaulted the payment for a few months that made the policy lapse. I stepped into the LIC office to get it revived. Apart from paying up all dues, I needed to get a signature of a witness, just to prove that I am still alive! I looked around. All of them were anxiously waiting to pay their premiums for their precious lives. None did I know. Finally I approached an LIC agent who agreed to sign as a witness after showing my driving license as identity card. In return he gave me his business card to approach him for any future life insurance needs. Little did he know that my life till date has been miserable with the only policy I had mistakenly taken!

I never went to that office after that, thanks to the online payment option they provided. But, this month when I tried to pay the premium, there was no policy available due for payment. I got worried, did it lapse again without my knowledge? Luckily, like any other website, this one also had an option “Press here to know more details “. Luckily again, that link worked. “Your policy is matured and ready for payment”! I have paid enough to them and it is their turn now to pay me back.

Though the amount is small, for that matter if I spend it in a much controlled fashion, it would last for a month and half max. Still I am happy since any money, how much ever small amount it be, coming in to one’s hands unexpectedly is a joy. And this time I don’t need to break my head to decide how to spend that small amount which is my life time achievement for the last 25 years!

This is one of the rarest of rarest of occasions in my life which reminds me of the disadvantage of living long enough!! Gains would have been much more otherwise, though I wouldn’t have been the benefactor!!!! 

No doubt, there are better, more attractive, rewarding while alive, life insurance policies are in the market now. Unlike the one I had opted. That’s why such companies are still alive, I guess!

Now let me worry about the procedures and formalities to extract that money out of them, till then let me keep my fingers crossed. 25 years passed by, my signature has shortened and shortened beyond recognition, my face has bloated and bloated again beyond recognition. Not sure what all I should do to prove that I am still alive, it is actually me who subscribed this policy. Eventually to prove that it is really a money-back policy!!!!
